About me
I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Siena in Italy, with six years of Econometrics background from my Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at Akdeniz University in Turkey. I also completed another Master’s (MSc) in Economics at the University of Beira Interior, Portugal.
In August 2021, I defended my doctoral thesis entitled Essays on Money and Credit in Macroeconomics and obtained my Ph.D. in Economics from the Joint Doctoral Program through the Universities of Siena, Florence, and Pisa (classification Excellent). The thesis consists of three independent and self-contained essays on the role that the rise of finance in recent years and the role it had in the global financial crisis, how these highly unregulated financial firms operate at the margins of the financial system and how they contribute - or exacerbate – financial stability. I further examined the transformation of money markets on the central bank monetary policy implications as well as it implications for government debt issues.
Furthermore, during my PhD, I had three periods of study abroad, where I conducted my research project as visiting researcher in Portugal, Spain and Canada. With these periods of research activity abroad, I received a Doctor Europaeus mark beside a Ph.D. (Dottore di Ricerca) corresponding that the part of his PhD thesis was prepared abroad in a country that adheres to the Bologna Process. At the same time, I participated in conferences and seminars in Siena, Poznan, Thessaloniki, Rome, and Milan where I interacted with the research community, presented my works in progress, and received feedback.
As for my qualifications, I possess a strong educational background in Statistics and Econometrics, with a working knowledge of various econometric techniques, such as dynamic and static panel data models, financial econometrics, and time-series econometrics. My six-year background in Econometrics enabled me to develop effective economic models and conduct high-level research on macroeconomic-related topics. For example, I employed several econometric techniques to conduct empirical investigations into banking and finance topics. Additionally, I have leveraged recent advances in econometric techniques, such as Heterogeneous Dynamic Panel Quantile, Quantile Autoregressive Distributed (QARDL), Non-Linear ARDL (NARDL), Johansen, Granger causality, Asymmetric Causality, and Time-varying Causality techniques (Recursive evolving).
In addition to my solid background in Econometrics, I have expertise in analytical and computational modeling approaches. I am particularly skilled in understanding and developing mathematical relationships between variables that capture aspects of economic reality. For my Ph.D. dissertation, I gained experience with heterodox methodologies, such as Stock-Flow Consistent and Agent-Based Modelling, where I devised simulation exercises based on a nine-sector economy using programs such as MATLAB and R.
My experience in the private banking sector and top financial institutions in Turkey: the Central Bank, the Istanbul Stock Exchange, and the Capital Markets Board of Turkey has also given me a unique perspective on financial plumbing, the interplay between economics and policy and has improved my knowledge on how the financial system interacts with the real economy.
